Of course it is! At first glance. But the work is real. Real good. So pour yourself a drink, have a look around, and enjoy the finer things in life…great design and storytelling!
Absolutely! I mean granted it's just my middle name with an 'S' tacked on to the end, and the photo is from Halloween, but the man is real dammit! Dan Michaels is a way of living, a lifestyle, a brand.
The Dan Michaels brand came to life in 1985, after a two-day island bender with yacht-rock gods Daryl Hall and John Oates. The duo was in desperate need of a hair product that could withstand the Caribbean humidity and evening cool-breeze. Dan Michaels, having perfected his hair years ago, knew just what they needed. The product was an instant hit among the yacht-rock community. Branded Dan Michaels True Professional, the hair-product line soon propelled Dan Michaels beyond his wildest dreams. But with great fortune and fame came increased scrutiny. In an attempt to divert some of the attention away from his lifestyle, he focused his public efforts toward philanthropy.
In 1992, Dan Michaels a charity alliance of U.S.-based nonprofits and their global partners working to help children, families, and communities throughout the region. By setting up collection containers in grocery and convenient stores across the nation, Dan Michaels raised $47 Million, mainly through small change. What the world didn't know was that thanks to an elaborate sorting machine, the nickels and pennies were separated from the collection, laundered through a series of small-town animal shelters, before being deposited straight into his Swiss bank account.
Legal? No, of course not. Nor did Dan Michaels get away with it either. Not unless you consider 18-month house-arrest in his Virgin Island cabana a vacation. Dan Michaels assures you it was anything but.
You and me both brotha' (or sista'), you and me both. But if it is of any consolation, all of this is fabricated. The work, real. This FAQ section though, not real. Helicopters? Pretty sure Dan's never even been near one.
